God’s Fighters || Angels Defined #7 (FINALE)

Suppose you have paid attention in the church in any capacity or sung some of the most famous Christmas carols. In that case, you have probably heard of an angel before. We’ve seen their depictions in plays, Christmas cards, and scripture pictures on social media, but how many of you know what angels are designed to do. The Bible even gives us a representation of what an angel looks like, which I believe Hallmark would not approve of.

In our series finale, let’s wrap up by discussing what an angel is and what they are designed to do. This series is called “Angels Defined.” My goal for this series is to help you understand the biblical concepts of what angels are, what angels do, and why they matter to you.

In part seven, we’re focusing on angels fighting the forces of evil.

2 Kings 6:16-18

16          “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”

17          Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

18          As the Aramean army advanced toward him, Elisha prayed, “O Lord, please make them blind.” So the Lord struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked.

Elisha’s servant wasn’t afraid anymore when he saw God’s mighty angel army support him. That prayer to open his eyes was a way to lean on faith. Faith reveals that God is doing more than we can ever realize through sight alone. When life’s difficulties seem impossible, remember that God’s army of angels surrounds you, and you won’t even realize it. Be sure you lean on your faith during those times of trouble and let God show you his resources. If it feels like God’s not showing up, the problem might be your spiritual lens and not God himself.

When I was walking through the aftermath of my sextortion incident, I could only lean on God to see it through to the end. God showed me the people who would support me and the resources to help guide me and help me manage when the world around me felt chaotic. Even when I was fired, God showed me, through my friends, who cared about me and wanted to see me succeed regardless of what I’ve done.

I remember, too, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, and I fell into an intense depression, prayer was my answer. Psalm 91 was something that I kept repeating over and over and over to help keep me through it. Prayer helped me get back on my feet. Support from the friends God put in my path ignited my journey to crawl out of that hole.

The world can throw many challenging and unexpected things our way, things that may have been triggered by us or those around us or are just the way of life, but God is bigger than everything. All it requires is us to stop, breathe, and pray.

I hope you enjoyed this series about who the angels are and what they do. It was a unique series to create, but I learned a lot about the angels that I didn’t know before.

Our next series will take us back to the New Testament, where we will discuss connecting with our Savior. The series will be aptly titled “The Jesus Connection.” I hope you’re excited about it. Until then, stay blessed!
