Bread of Life || Matthew 4:4 || Mid-Week Midrash #20

Scripture: Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures, ‘A person does not live only by eating bread. But a person lives by everything the Lord says.’”

Midrash

Jesus is being tempted in this verse. Satan is tempting Jesus to give up his Godly powers and presence to follow him. Satan asks Jesus to turn a stone into bread because Jesus hasn’t eaten in 40 days. Jesus mentions that a person lives by everything that the Lord says. Obviously, this isn’t a literal meaning, but it is spiritual. While we still need food to nourish us physically, the word of God is something we use to feed us spiritually. It helps us to control our hunger when the world seems in trouble. May you reflect on what it means for you to be fed by God’s word.
