Be My Neighbor || John 1:14 || Mid-Week Midrash #3

MWM 3

Scripture – John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.

Midrash

Listen to those perfect titles John calls Jesus. “…the one-of-a-kind glory…,” “…like Father, like Son…”, “…Generous inside and out…”, “true from start to finish.” I think we may call Jesus the same thing if we saw Jesus with our own eyes, right? We find it so unfathomable to see Jesus, the one who heals people, feeds the masses, and raises people from the dead, walking down the road as you and me. John calls him someone who moves into the neighborhood. How would you act? Would you be a friendly neighbor? The one who welcomes them, brings a gift,  and invites the family for dinner, etc.? Would you be the not-so-friendly neighbor? Who watches from the windows, calls the town leaders for petty infractions, and just criticizes everything? Maybe you need to re-evaluate how neighborly you are. Remember, Jesus says to “Love your neighbors as you love yourself.” May you reflect on how you treat others and how to be more like Jesus.
