God’s Love for Generations || Psalm 103:17-18 || Mid-Week Midrash #47

MWM 47

17 But the Lord’s love for those who fear him continues forever and ever. And his goodness continues to their grandchildren

18 and to those who keep his agreement and who remember to obey his orders.

The “fear of the Lord” is a complex term in Bible speak. The best explanation I’ve heard of this that I’ve been comfortable with is a healthy respect for the Lord. The Lord’s love for those that respect him continues forever and ever. This explanation sounds reasonable. You are willing to tolerate people who respect you, right? Therefore, your level of care and respect for that person continues until they give a reason why it should stop. God’s goodness continues throughout generations to those who follow what he asks and does what he says. It’s an uncomfortable thing to think this way. God’s goodness continues forever to those who follow what he says and does what he commands. It’s strong language, but it’s also from Psalm. With this coming from someone’s prayer, it’s more understandable, but we need more context for these verses. I believe. It’s a praise song from David, so what if we look at this in a positive sense. God’s goodness lasts for multiple generations. Suppose you follow God already and continue these teachings to your kids and grandkids. In that case, God’s goodness you’ve received will continue. All that’s needed is to continue what God asks of us: love Him with all our being and love others as we love ourselves. Let’s continue with this!
