We looked at the scroll. We know that the scroll holds the future of our world. We know that Jesus is the only one with the power to manage the scroll. Starting today, Jesus is breaking the seals found within the scroll. Over this seven-part series, we are looking at what the different seals represent and how we can be interpreting these seals in our world today. This series will be called “Sealed No Longer.” Again, my goal is to look deeper into what the seals represent and how we can be mindful of how to interpret those events in our world today. The second seal is in Revelation 6:3-4
3 When the Lamb broke the second seal, I heard the second living being say, “Come!”
4 Then another horse appeared, a red one. Its rider was given a mighty sword and the authority to take peace from the earth. And there was war and slaughter everywhere.
Let’s look at the symbolism found here:
The color, red, can represent many things, such as sin, redemption, sacrifice and life. Red symbolizes the weight of sin and the need for atonement. Red is the color of redemption because of the blood of Jesus. Red is connected to the life blood of all living beings. Red symbolizes divine protection and deliverance. Red embodies the concepts of danger and sacrifice. Red represents the sins of humanity, the need for atonement, and the divine protection and deliverance from that sin.
The sword represented conflict, division, or the Word of God as a tool against spiritual warfare. In a literal sense, it was a short sword or dagger used for military and domestic purposes. The usage of this sword was for both life giving and life taking circumstances. The sword was used by the rider to take the peace from earth.
Peace is the state of tranquility, harmony, and well-being. It describes the absence of conflict and the presence of positive blessings. The rider was ready to battle against sin using the Sword of the Spirit to protect and deliver his people against the forces of sin.
Complete peace will occur when Christ returns to the world a second time. The book of Revelation paints a picture of the coming future of our world, full of persecutions and natural disasters. Ultimately, as scary as it sounds, they signal a better time to come. We will see these events happen, whenever and however they may come, we can do the work God calls us to do and rest knowing that the victory has already happened. We know that the divine justice in peace found in God will reign over the world today.
Knowing that Jesus’ will return isn’t a sign we should rest. It’s not a sign that we should sit on the sideline while the terrifying events of the world take place. We should dig deeper into our relationship with God and ask him how we can best serve his creation in a way that honors him and glorifies his Kingdom. Until next time, stay blessed.
