2 Peter 1:4

4 Through these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world on account of lust.	4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.	4 Through these things, we have received God’s great and valuable promises, so we might escape the corruption of worldly desires and share in the divine nature.

Let’s look at the definition of lust I created back in my Bible study series: “I Want to Understand.”

Lust is a focused passion that properly builds on what a person truly wants.

The promises of God outweigh any lustful desires that invade of our minds and hearts. We as humans tend to take what we believe we want and set out hearts upon to achieve the outcome we want, regardless of who or what is in our path. The recklessness that comes with following these desires and outcomes are what gets us into trouble and causes our sinful behavior. The promises of God and the eternal blessings that come with following him are far greater than anything we could attempt to achieve on our own. Those promises give us the ability to get into share God’s story to the world and reveal what his powers represent.
