Jesus: The Amen, the Faithful Witness, and the Source of Creation
- Amen is a Hebrew word that means “truly” or “so be it.” It was a word that represented certainty and truth. For Jesus to be called that, it shows how reliable and authoritative Christ’s message is.
- Jesus’ role as the perfect and reliable witness to God’s truth is shown through his faithfulness and truth.
- Jesus’ preeminence (see Colossians 1:16-17) shows that everything was created through Him and for Him. John described Jesus as the Word through whom all things were made.
When the Truth Hits Home
We are called to reflect his faithfulness and truthfulness in our own lives. We are called to be the light of Christ, which can be carried to all the dark corners of the earth. How this can start is through being a reliable witness to His grace and truth. How has God’s grace shown out for you? How has his truth become real in your life? The answers for these two questions are the foundation for our testimony. For me his grace has been shown through the different transitions of life I’ve been in the last three years. Between five jobs, different friendships, health issues, and more – God has been a constant for me. His love for me has been shown in the peace that I have not found anywhere else. His favor is shown through situations that I didn’t think I could overcome, like returning to work at a church after the traumatic separation I experienced earlier. His truth has been shown through the different health scares I’ve walked through. Just recently, it was gallstones that I didn’t know I had that proved to be minor. It was surviving a moped accident with just a slight concussion and a minor fracture in my ankle. God’s healing power has been shown all throughout my life – not only in the physical, but mental too. It saved me from the spiral and anger from the trauma with my sextortion incident. It saved me from the depression from COVID lockdown. God’s been so good to me, and it’s my role to reflect that goodness to those around me.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean to you that Jesus is the “Amen” – the final word?
- How have you seen God’s truth and grace come through?
- In what ways can your life serve as a faithful and true witness today?
