Scripture: Genesis 1:1-2
“First this: God created the Heavens and Earth – all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness.
Midrash
We learned that God created everything from nothingness. God formed something formless. It’s impressive that God did that so early on and created all the things we acknowledge daily and all the things that go on in the background. Knowing this, let me ask you: If God can create something this big out of nothing and turn it into something, then do you believe God can turn the nothingness you feel into something? Often, we feel that God won’t do what we ask for because “Why would he do this for me?” We know and believe that if someone else asks it, you know God will provide. Yet we feel like, “Who am I to receive that same thing?” Who am I? This is a three-word question that can easily lead to a three-thousand-word answer. Who are you? Are you the nothingness, the emptiness, the anxiety, the depression, the labels, the emotions, or are you the something, the masterpiece, the calm, the peace, or who Jesus calls you to be? God created the world out of nothing, and God will use the nothingness you see and don’t see and turn it into something bigger than you can imagine.
