Pure Words || Psalm 12:6 || Mid-Week Midrash #22

“The Lord’s words are pure. They are like silver purified by fire, like silver purified seven times over.”
-Psalm 12:6

What does it mean for something to be pure? One definition of pure that I think fits here says this: “containing nothing that doesn’t properly belong.” The Bible contains language that is supposed to be there. It does not include different things that aren’t supposed to be there. People might argue this because the different books of the Bible were written by different people through a long timespan. Paul explains that all words are God-breathed, meaning that they come directly from the source. This sounds like the silver that gets purified seven times over to make sure that it contains only silver and nothing that can tarnish it.
