“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
-James 1:22
Deceive is a emotional word used in this context. This verse talks about following what the Bible tells us to do (i.e. Love God and love others) and not just hear about it. It’s great to immerse yourself with great music, sermons, friends, and more when it comes to sharing God’s word with each other, but listening to it is only half the fun. It’s when we act on God’s word, sharing with others how we love God and acting with compassion, kindness, and mercy towards each other. I believe this is when we feel the true power, passion, and love that God has for us and the world.
