Silent Wisdom || Worship Helpers || Week 4

You may think that the wisdom we get from God comes from just talking to him, but what if I showed you how we could gain wisdom in silence. Maybe with just one breath.

Today’s worship aid is a “Breath Prayer.”

Wisdom is “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” I want you to think about how much you have acquired in these areas (experience, knowledge, and sound judgment) by just being present. You’re not the one talking in the conversation. You’re not the one leading the discussion. You are sitting there, in silence, listening, waiting for your turn to speak. You are absorbing all the different sensations around you. There’s a different feeling to being silent in a crowded room than being a part of the noise. What if that experience can come from sitting with God?

I was in this room one morning, praying before I started work. I was trying to tell God everything that was in my head and in my heart, which, if you know me, can be a very long and confusing process. I remember reciting and rationalizing what I was saying and then getting so flustered with myself. So I sat there. I was saying nothing, just existing for lack of a better term. I realized later on that God was speaking that whole time. I just needed to shut up. I need to silence my voice and my thoughts and just listen. I was sitting in the background. I am gaining the experience of what it’s like to listen to God. I am gaining the knowledge of hearing God, responding in a way that brings him glory. I am gaining the ability to use good judgment to discern what is coming from God and what is not. All from sitting in the silence today.
