“Worship With Me” returns this summer, but with a twist! Instead of plucking these songs from my Christian Contemporary Music Spotify playlist, I went and search for the current (as of today) top songs in the CCM genre. All of these songs are ones that I have never heard before, so you will see brand new songs that are on the charts right now. The format will be the same: introduce the song, find commentary from the artist, and then talk about some of my favorite lyrics from the song and what it means to me.

Today’s song is “No Fear” by Jon Reddick. This song was released on January 13, 2025 as part of his upcoming album “No Fear” on May 30th.

In an interview Jon did with Life 90.5 (link at the end), Reddick reminds us that fear has held most of us down for a majority of our lives. However, Jesus leads us to escape and go around our fears. Jesus moves us through our fear. Fear is not something to be afraid of, and the trust we have in Jesus can overcome all of our battles.

Listen to this verse:

You might think I’d be afraid // Runnin’ scared with a shaken faith

But the God I know says it ain’t over // The God I know’s gonna make a way

Fear can halt us in our tracks. It stops us from progressing in life. It hinders us from taking chances that can move us to the person God created us to be. We can get scared of the possibilities the future holds and be fearful of change. We’ll stay, stuck in the comfort and the frustration of not being where we want to be in life. However, we serve a God that has overcome all those frustrations, possibilities, and chances. Our God sees the results of what our chances are and guides towards the best path, often the path that created us to follow. However, we have the choice to make. Even if we make a wrong choice, God still loves us. We learn from our journey, and recognize that God’s wisdom, grace, and mercy are present at all times.

This isn’t much, but the way he uses it in the song scratches my brain the right way:

Yeah, though I walk through the valley.

A connection back to Psalm 23. In this context, to be able to walk through the valley means to be able to walk through our fears. To recognize that even though we may be in chaos right now, we know that our God will give us rest, provide us our daily bread, and be able to recharge ourselves. We’ll be flowing with the Holy Spirit and be able to return back to the path that he created us to follow.
