Introduction
Welcome back to our series, “Let’s Listen To: Christmas Edition.” This is our song-blog series that goes through some Christmas songs and breaks them down to see how the Holy Spirit is moving through this particular time of here. This week’s song that we’re breaking down is “Until You” by Danny Gokey.
Behind the Song
This song is one of his latest releases from his most recent Christmas Album called “The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Collection.” I usually don’t listen to the artists’ original Christmas songs. I usually listen to the classics and how the artists add their flair, but this song had a unique message that roped me in. There needs to be an official article from Danny himself that talks about the meaning of this song, so let’s dive right into breaking down the lyrics.
What Does This Say?
If you can’t tell from the song’s title, there’s a precise meaning to the song, so I’m only going to talk about one lyric, but the meaning of it stays the same. So here’s what we’re going to break down.
“We were hopeless, looking for an answer
Until You
We were hurting, calling for a helper
Until You”
This says it all right here. We’re hopeless, trying to find the answer to all the world’s chaos, negativity, and hatred until we get introduced to Jesus. We’re hurting, trying to find someone to help us until we find Jesus. Doesn’t this talk about Christmas as a whole? Jesus is the light of the world. He’s the ultimate light that shines the brightest above the rest. This is how the Magi were able to find him because the star above him was the brightest. Jesus is the brightest light in the world, and He calls us to be the same light to the world ourselves. A light that isn’t hidden but shines the brightest because of the Holy Spirit. We need to be that bright light to break someone else’s darkness.
We also need a healer, and they call Him the Almighty Healer for a reason. This doesn’t just mean a physical healer, but a mental healer and a spiritual healer. A group of people doesn’t have a good time during Christmas for various reasons like grief, family issues, and other reasons. Jesus helps to be that source of comfort. He helps us out of the panic and stress the holiday brings. Jesus helps us out of the depression that it can cause. He helps us out with the frustrations that it brings. It says it all when we call Jesus the Almighty Healer, and I pray that He will be that source of comfort for you. Also, learn from Jesus if the holidays are okay for you. Learn how to be that source of comfort for others. Jesus gives us the tools to make us feel better and help others out more. Jesus calls us to serve instead of being served, so remember that!
That’s all I got to say about this song. It’s short and sweet, and to the point. I hope you go check out his song. We’ll see you back next week for the series finale and the finale of 2020. See you then! Stay blessed!
