Welcome to another chapter in our “Let’s Listen To” series! If you’re new to this, I welcome you! This series is about sharing some of my favorite contemporary Christian tracks. I talk about anything from the artist’s explanation of the song’s meaning, how I connected with the song, and some of my favorite verses.

Today’s song is “More Than I Could Be” by Danny Gokey. This song comes from Danny’s latest album, “Haven’t Seen It Yet,” released in 2019. This album came loaded with incredible songs like the title track “Haven’t Seen It Yet” and “Love God Love People,” among many others. This song has a powerful message, a catchy melody, and lyrics that make you want to sing along 24/7.

This song is for those who think they aren’t good enough. I connect with this from a content creator’s perspective. Over the years, I’ve written blogs and poems, created bible study videos for my church, and created gaming content. I never thought I was good at it. I still don’t, to be honest. I’ve improved, but I still don’t consider myself good. This song has reminded me that God has made me better than I could ever be. God is using me in ways I may never understand or perceive correctly. God looks at the inner parts of my being while I look at the outer, which is most likely why I don’t see myself in the ways God sees me. It’s a song I’ll listen to when I need this reminder.

I cannot find any article or interview that Danny Gokey did that gives the song’s meaning from the artist’s perspective. Let’s dive into my favorite lyrics and why I love them.

I can be tough

But you make me stronger

I can be wise

But Your ways are higher

Maybe I can speak a word, reach a couple people

You can make it reach a few thousand

I know on my own, I’m only so much

But with You, I’m boundless

I’ve had thoughts and conversations with God along these lines, and I’m sure you have too. When I started this blog in 2019 and was sharing reflections about my job, I never imagined it would turn into me sharing studies and insights about the Bible with almost 100 followers. When I started my gaming channel through my church, I never imagined we’d reach people all over the world and reach almost 100 subscribers. These God-first mediums have ensured. His love gets shared in ways that don’t seem conventional. I’ve been able to do things that a previous me would never have thought I could do. Seeing how God’s used me on this journey has been surreal, and things are just beginning. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking, but I have faith that God will use me in new and crazy ways that will push me to be the best version of myself I can be.

I can be almost everything

But You take the best I could achieve

And make me more than I could dream

More than a warrior, more than a hero or anything

You make me more than I could be

As I’m writing this, I feel this way. I can be almost everything and do almost anything. Trying to figure out my place in life is complex and anxious. I’m being pulled apart in several different directions and trying to decide which direction to lead. Trying to figure out how God is taking the best out of me is an exciting journey. It’s forced me almost to take a step outside of myself and see how God is using me, to almost watch from a third perspective. It’s weird but exciting. At the end of it, though, God will make me more than I could ever be. Make me a better Christian, a better human, a better friend, a better husband, and just a better soul on earth.

That wraps up my review. It’s a beautiful song that I encourage you to listen to. A link at the top of the blog will take you to a YouTube video, but listen to it on whatever platform you use to listen to music. If there’s a song you’d like me to talk about, please let me know in the comments. Come back next week for the beginning of our 3-week series discussing the punishments God gave the snake, the woman, and the man in Genesis 3. Until then, stay blessed!
