The Concern With Influencers || 2 Timothy 3:6-9 || Mid-Week Midrash #10

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:6-9

These are the kind of people who smooth-talk themselves into the homes of unstable and needy women and take advantage of them; women who, depressed by their sinfulness, take up with every new religious fad that calls itself “truth.” They get exploited every time and never really learn. These men are like those old Egyptian frauds Jannes and Jambres, who challenged Moses. They were rejects from the faith, twisted in their thinking, defying truth itself. But nothing will come of these latest impostors. Everyone will see through them, just as people saw through that Egyptian hoax.

Midrash:

These people referred to here are the false teachers who teach about the Bible to spread their own agenda. Verses 1 thru 5 talk about these people as egotistical, money-hungry, crude, cynical, slanderers, and more. These people move to do what is suitable for themselves regardless of what happens to others. Note the specific mention: “they get exploited every time and never really learn.” That’s what happens to self-indulgent people today, in my opinion. As part of a content creator network, both here and in my church ministry work, the power that we can hold as far as our influence is concerned is mighty. We can use the Bible to share the word as God prepared it for us, or we can use the Bible to push forward our own agenda. Often the latter happens, but those who do that get found out. This is just your reminder to watch who you watch. Filter what they feed you enough that you aren’t being led down the wrong path.
