Scripture: Joshua 1:8-9
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Don’t be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Midrash
This is a part of Joshua’s instructions after he takes over the leadership of the Israelites from Moses. It’s a reminder to not let God’s word get away from him while in his position. He has to read and reflect on it day and night. If he follows this, then he will be good to go. I think this is an excellent reminder to us as well. We need to remember to read and reflect on God’s word each day because it will help us to be successful. How? This text reminds us to be strong and courageous and not fearful or intimidated because God will be with us always. Knowing God’s word can help us remain firm in hard times and not succumb to darkness. Let this be your reminder to read your Bible!
