Scripture – Romans 10:9
Say the welcoming word to God – “Jesus is Master” – embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it.
Midrash
This week’s and next week’s midrash is interesting because this is part of a more extensive section from the Message. It comes from Romans 10:4-10, but we are just looking at verses 9 and 10, which I think I separated out correctly. We’ll be talking about salvation both weeks. This focuses on proclaiming that Jesus is Lord. This was one of Paul’s most excellent methods to turn people into Christians. We need to claim Jesus is our Lord for sure, but I also love how the Message puts it. We need to embrace Jesus as our Lord in the physical sense and in the mental sense. We need to show it our actions and our love, words, and thoughts that Jesus guides us and is our Savior every day of our lives. While acknowledging all of this, we also need to believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. So we need to believe what Jesus did during his time on Earth and that God raised him from the dead. Why? We’ll talk about that next week. May you reflect on these works this week.
