Move (Keep Walkin’) || TobyMac || Track 1

Good day to all those reading this blog! Welcome to some new-ish content. I debuted a blog like this in October of last year. However, I took it down because I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to post here, and the response it received was lower than expected. I’ve since learned that numbers are meaningless! Also, I’ve learned that I want to speak about different things that are meaningful to me. Music has been such a BIG part of my life over the years, so why not talk about it. I’m going to break down the song “Move (Keep Walkin’) by TobyMac. TobyMac was one of the first artists I started listening to when I first got into Contemporary Christmas music. I’m excited to start this, but I want to explain what this blog will be about. That way, those who want to leave the blog and wait for the next can do so. We’ll give some time for those people…are you gone yet…I’ll wait some more…okay…here we go!

My breakdowns include lyric interpretation, some words from the artists, usage, etc. That’s it!

I can’t find much commentary from Toby about this track in particular. Still, we’ll give it a go regardless.

Many commentaries highlight the lyric, “Too many passin’ dreams roll by like limousines. It’s hard to keep believin’ when they pass you by and by” I didn’t look into what other commentaries to see, but this was very popular. Think about this! How many of us have dreams that we want to reach and accomplish, but time flies by quicker than we recognize, and there they are…passing by. How big are your dreams? A new job? Marriage…maybe even a relationship? Higher-income? More friends? Need I go on. We have these dreams…some big and some small…and we think we have all the time in the world. It’s hard to grasp that time on earth isn’t limitless. Then a day goes by…then two…then a week…then a month…a year…now we’re 2030, and you haven’t made a dent in accomplishing your dreams. Did I hurt someone’s feelings there? I’m coming for ya now! We need to get off our butt and do what God’s called us to do and have Him help us accomplish these dreams.

I love the build-up to the chorus. “I know your heart been broke again. I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet. But it ain’t over yet, it ain’t over yet.” It reminds me of Danny Gokey’s song “Haven’t Seen It Yet” A lot of us, I’m sure, have been angry at God, right? C’mon…answer honestly. Don’t give yourself the answer you want to believe. Give yourself the truth! Most times, they can be two different things. It’s easy to stop and yell at God because the broken heart you’re suffering, and the unanswered prayers you’ve been praying haven’t been taken care of. Guess what? God’s timing is above our timing. If God worked when we told Him to work instead of letting His will work when He sees it redeemable, the world would be different. Faith is crazy that way! God’s timing happens through our faith. We continue to interject with how we believe God needs to operate instead of being patient and letting our faith in God happen.

This was fun! I know it’s short, and it’s all over the place. Practice makes perfect! What songs would you like me to break down? I’m excited to see where this route of blogging takes me. See you soon!!!
