Where I’m Standing Now || Phil Wickham and Brandon Lake || Track 16

Song: Phil Wickham – Where I’m Standing Now (Official Music Video) ft. Brandon Lake

Welcome to another chapter in our “Let’s Listen To” series! If you’re new to this, I welcome you! This series is about sharing some of my favorite contemporary Christian tracks. I talk about anything from the artist’s explanation of the song’s meaning, how I connected with the song, and some of my favorite verses.

Today’s song is “Where I’m Standing Now” by Phil Wickham featuring Brandon Lake. This will be a unique review as I only know a little about this song. I remember getting on a huge Phil Wickham or Brandon Lake kick and seeing this duet on my YouTube feed. I listened to it and wasn’t quite sure how I felt. It’s a slower song, which is okay but done in a more balladesque style. My favorite songs from both artists are slower, but they have some pep and rhythm. This was a slowed-down song, which is suitable for a deep worship moment or prayer situation. I still added it to my playlist, so I do like it.

I cannot find an article from either artist that talks about the song’s meaning. So, let’s jump to talking about some of my favorite verses.

Out of the wilderness

Into Your deliverance

Look where I’m standing up

These hands that once were chained

Now lifted up in praise.

The wilderness scenes in the Bible often represent wandering, feeling lost, or being tempted. The Israelites wandered through the desert for 40 years after they were rescued from slavery in Egypt. Jesus wandered through the desert for 40 days after his baptism. Both situations were tempted by the enemy: the Israelites had the comfort of Egypt, and Jesus was tempted by the devil. Yet, they walked into God’s deliverance. The Israelites got to the Promised Land, and Jesus, well, you know what Jesus does.

We get that same freedom with God for our lives. We stand, released from the chains that sin and bondage have on us. We’re free from the punishment of sin through the sacrifice of Jesus. It gives us every right to stand and praise God. What’s something that you feel chained to? How can you find God’s deliverance in your situation? I encourage you to think of something to worship God about.

Led by Your mighty hand

Into the promised land

Look where I’m standing now

You carried the cross for me

Now I am a child of the King

Do you see a difference between the two verses? Look closer at the middle line of both verses. We go from standing up to standing now. God’s deliverance allows us to get up from our dark places and walk into the light shown through Jesus. When we reach the place of God’s deliverance, we revel in it. Remembering where we came from and reflecting on where we are today. We acknowledge Jesus’s sacrifice and how it opened us up to a beautiful relationship with God.

Overall, it’s a powerful and intimate song to sing. It digs into the marrow of our souls and allows us to give glory to God with all of our hearts. Is it the catchiest song? No. Is it still a wonderful, mindful, and heartfelt song? Absolutely. There’s a link to the song for you to check out. Let me know what you think.

Stay tuned for whatever we have coming next! As always, stay blessed!
