Today’s song is “Hard Fought Hallelujah” by Brandon Lake. It was released on November 8, 2024, as part of his latest album titled “King of Hearts.”

In an article done by air1.com, Brandon Lake talks about the song’s meaning. The article actually quotes an article from Jesus Freak Hideout, where Lake talked about how this song “is about the battles we face, the grit throughout the fight for faith, and the praise that comes after. “ (article: http://air1.com/music/blog/music-news/faith-behind-the-song-hard-fought-hallelujah-brandon-lake-9497)

This is not new to me. I fell in love with the song as soon as I heard it, walking through a challenging part of my life. The verses were very powerful. Verses like these:

There’s times when my hands go up freely

And times that it costs

There’s days when a praise comes out easy

And days when it takes all the strength I’ve got.

Life has a way of knocking us down. To wear us down and to give up. To be defeated by the chaos of life. God teaches us to trust in him. To know that the peace we find in the midst of chaos is something that we cannot find here on earth. It’s a peace that doesn’t remove the chaos, but peace that gets us through it. It’s a source of pause to allow us to focus on him, gather our strength in him, and work through what we’re walking through. A way to do that is surrender it. Surrender everything that’s going on to God. Some days will be purely positive – surrender it. Some days will be a crapstorm – surrender it. Some days will be full of anxiety – surrender it. Some days will be ones we don’t want to get out of bed – surrender it. Give all to God, no matter how much it takes.

Verse 2 also hit me hard:

Yeah, the struggle keeps me honest

And it breaks down the walls of my pride.

‘Cause faith isn’t proven like gold

‘Til it’s been through the fire

Faith is the source of the things we cannot hope for. We can talk about it until we’re blue in the face, but it’s worthless unless we act it out. A lot of times when our faith shows strength are when we run into moments of chaos. Struggle is the one time where our true colors show. If we can act the same when stressed as if we were not, then we are seeing the truth strength of God show out. The chaos makes us accept who we are, where we are in life, and how we need to move forward. What a better testament of who God than to see his creation walks through fire and come out victorious on the other side.
