“Born on Christmas Day” by Brad Paisley || Worship With Me #37

Welcome back to “Worship with Me,” my music series, which introduces you to some of my favorite worship music. I like to share information from the artist about the meaning of the song and some of my favorite lyrics.

Since we’re in the Christmas season, this and the next four Sundays will be about some of my favorite Christmas music. I hope you’re enjoying it and are ready for the season. I recognize and acknowledge that the holiday season isn’t always easy for everyone due to grief, lost relationships, and the general chaos of life. I hope these songs will bring at least a few minutes of your day.

Today’s song is “Born on Christmas Day” by Brad Paisley. A cool thing about this song is that he wrote and performed it when he was thirteen. Parts of his 1985 recording are mixed in with this song, showing that this song and its message span the generations.

Born on Christmas day

Seeing this little baby, you wouldn’t expect a bright future so immediately. Yet the prophecies showcased what this baby would do before the baby even knew it. The baby is a sign of the new version of peace and love that the world needs. Not only will the baby extend it to us, but they will teach us how to extend it to others. The world may criticize this version of love and compassion, but God is with him (and us) when we do.

A lot of us might connect with Verse 3:

We expected a soldier to save us from our plight

All dressed in shiny armor, ready for a fight.

But instead he sent me a little baby boy

All filled with love and happiness

To bring the world joy.

We keep looking for a leader today who will fight – militarily, politically, economically, etc. – and that’s our downfall. We want a leader who will fight for us with blood and gore, not caring about who’s in our path. Jesus was never about this and even rebuked his followers when they executed revenge and violence in his name. Jesus treated evil with love, compassion, courage, and confidence. He stood up for what was right by whatever means necessary, but violence was never the answer.
